Bhubaneswar, April 19 -- Shreyas Iyer is increasingly being viewed as a strong contender to take over India's T20I captaincy from Suryakumar Yadav, as per reports in some section of media. The selectors are said to be seriously considering Iyer, especially after his impressive performances at No. 4 for Punjab Kings in the IPL.

Iyer's leadership credentials have also strengthened his case. He previously guided Delhi Capitals to the IPL final in 2020 and later captained Kolkata Knight Riders to a title win in 2024. In the 2025 season, he enjoyed a prolific run with Punjab Kings, leading them to a runners-up finish after losing the final to Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
