West Bengal govt announces Rs 5 'Maach Bhaat' across 400 canteens
Bhubaneswar, May 26 -- In a move likely to resonate strongly with Bengal's cultural identity, the West Bengal government, on Tuesday, announced that fish-and-rice meals, popularly known as 'Maach Bhaat', will soon be available for just Rs 5 at 400 state-run canteens across the state.
The announcement comes amid continued political debate over food choices and Bengali dietary traditions.
Speaking at an administrative meeting in Kalyani, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said the subsidised meal scheme would be introduced across dedicated government canteens in West Bengal.
