Bhubaneswar, June 13 -- Do you ride a two-wheeler without wearing a helmet? Do you drive a car without fastening your seat belt? If so, it is time to be cautious because a moment of negligence can cost a life.

A report by India's Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has revealed that nearly 50,000 lives could have been saved in 2024 if road users had worn helmets and seat belts. The findings highlight the alarming role of safety violations in fatal road accidents across the country.

Thousands of Deaths Linked to Non-Use of Safety Gear

According to the report, 81,780 two-wheeler riders lost their lives in road accidents during 2024. More than 40 percent of them could have survived had they been wearing helmets.
