Bhubaneswar, April 9 -- Public anger is gradually mounting in Bhubaneswar over the alleged collection of user fees by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) for garbage management services. Various citizen groups and organisations have strongly opposed the move, alleging that the civic body is imposing an additional financial burden despite already collecting sanitation charges through holding tax.
Residents argue that even though holding tax includes charges for cleanliness and waste disposal, the imposition of a separate user fee lacks justification. They have questioned the intent behind such a move, especially when there are legal concerns surrounding the collection of holding tax itself.
