Unable to sell his paddy, Odisha farmer seeks euthanasia
Bhubaneswar, June 25 -- A farmer from Odisha's Bargarh district has sought euthanasia, alleging that he has been unable to sell his paddy due to delays in receiving a procurement token. Gopal Sahu of Melchhamunda village has submitted a petition through the district administration addressed to the President, Prime Minister, Chief Minister and Governor, claiming he has exhausted all options.
Gopal had cultivated paddy during the rabi season and was hoping to sell his produce through the government procurement system. However, despite waiting for a long period, he is yet to receive a token. He says the delay has pushed him into severe financial distress.
