Bhubaneswar, June 8 -- Millions of beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) are set to be affected after the number of subsidised LPG cylinders available under the scheme was reduced from nine to four per year on Monday.

The move is expected to have a significant impact on low-income households that depend on subsidised cooking gas for their daily needs.

When the Ujjwala scheme was launched in 2016, eligible beneficiaries were entitled to receive subsidy benefits on up to 12 LPG cylinders annually. In a subsequent revision, the limit was reduced to nine cylinders per year. Now, the number has reportedly been brought down further to just four subsidised cylinders annually.
