Bhubaneswar, March 23 -- A Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) survey indicated the presence of a buried heritage city beneath Puri on Monday. Findings emerged during and after excavation work linked to the Srimandir Parikrama Project.

Remnants reportedly dating back to the Ganga dynasty period were first discovered during excavation for the Srimandir Parikrama Project. Subsequently, a GPR survey was conducted at the site, which revealed further details about subsurface structures.

According to the survey report, the presence of a historic settlement is not confined to areas surrounding the Srimandir but extends across the city. The findings suggest that the soil of Srikhetra contains extensive historical remains beneath the surface.
