Bhubaneswar, March 23 -- Farmers in Karnali village under Aska block in Odisha's Ganjam are facing severe losses due to a glut in tomato production, with traders reportedly unwilling to purchase the produce even at Re 1 per kg.
With no buyers coming forward, farmers have stopped harvesting tomatoes cultivated across nearly 150 acres of land. Large quantities of the vegetable are now being left in the fields, where they are rotting.
The situation has been attributed to a lack of market demand as well as the absence of cold storage facilities in the area, leaving farmers with limited options to preserve or sell their produce.
