Bhubaneswar, Sept. 26 -- Crime cases at locations under East Coast Railway's solar-powered CCTV surveillance have fallen sharply, declining from 200 between January and August 2025 to 34 during the corresponding period in 2026.

The reduction amounts to around 83% and has been recorded at locations where solar-powered CCTV cameras have been deployed. The surveillance system has helped bring down several types of railway-related offences.

According to reports, cases involving the placement of external objects declined from one to zero, while cable-cutting incidents fell from 10 to one. Stone-pelting cases dropped from 20 to three, and theft of passengers' belongings decreased from two to zero.
