Bhubaneswar, July 4 -- A two-and-a-half-year-old murder case in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district was solved after a DNA test helped establish the identity of the deceased and led officials to the alleged accused.

The breakthrough came after a pair of slippers recovered from the crime scene was identified by the victim's son.

According to reports, the unidentified body was recovered from an abandoned well in a cashew forest at Bahubandh Sureisahi under Udala Police Station limits on November 8, 2023. However, police were unable to ascertain the identity of the deceased at the time. Three months later, the Crime Branch took over the investigation.
