Bhubaneswar, Oct. 22 -- A man was trampled to death by an elephant while sleeping at his house inside a forest at Dahimal village under Deogaon police limits in Odisha's Bolangir district on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Sitaram Bhoi.

Forest department officials from Saintala and Deogaon police reached the spot after receiving information and began an investigation. The reason why Bhoi was living inside the forest is yet to be ascertained.

On October 10, an elephant damaged the boundary wall and hand pump of a government primary school in Dadhiapadar village under Muribahal block in the district.
