Bhubaneswar, Aug. 10 -- In a significant development amid growing speculation over the appointment of Odisha's next Director General of Police (DGP), senior IPS officers Sanjeeb Panda and Yeshwant Kumar Jethwa were promoted to the Director General (DG) of Police rank on Monday.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved the State government's proposal to promote the two officers from the Additional Director General (ADG) rank to the DG grade.

The development assumes significance as Odisha is preparing for a change at the top of the State police hierarchy. The tenure of incumbent DGP YB Khurania is scheduled to end on August 16.
