Bhubaneswar, April 18 -- The Odisha government has accelerated efforts to transfer Rourkela Airport from the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) of SAIL to the Airports Authority of India (AAI), with plans to upgrade it to Code 4C standards to accommodate larger aircraft. The move is expected to significantly enhance air connectivity in the region.

A high-level meeting involving senior Odisha government officials and SAIL authorities was held in Bhubaneswar recently to review the proposed expansion. According to official sources, discussions focused on expediting the development of both RSP and the airport, with an emphasis on resolving land-related hurdles and other bottlenecks affecting the two key projects.
