Rajya Sabha voting row: BJD challenges speaker's decision in Orissa High Court
Bhubaneswar, Sept. 11 -- The Opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has moved the Orissa High Court, challenging the Odisha Assembly Speaker's decision in connection with the party's petition seeking disqualification of eight members.
The BJD has filed a writ petition (civil), making the Speaker a party to the case. Earlier, the Naveen Patnaik-led party had submitted a petition before the Speaker seeking cancellation of the membership of eight members who had allegedly voted against the party's decision in the Rajya Sabha election.
However, the Speaker had rejected the petition on technical grounds. Challenging that decision, the BJD has now approached the High Court.
