Bhubaneswar, June 22 -- Indian Railways tightened its regulations to enhance passenger safety and comfort by introducing stricter penalties for smoking, unauthorised hawking and begging on trains and railway premises.

The revised provisions came into effect following a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Railways under the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2026. The notification stated that the amended provisions related to the Railways Act would be in effect from the date of publication, as reported by The Indian Express.
