Bhubaneswar, Oct. 13 -- Residents of Santaragadia in Balasore district of Odisha opposed the administration's move to demolish illegal brick kilns on Tuesday. The protest led to a confrontation between villagers and police, with some protesters lying on the road and surrounding administrative officials.

Officials of the local administration reportedly reached the area this morning with several bulldozers and security personnel to demolish the brick kilns.

However, residents opposed the demolition, citing a court order for a fresh survey to determine the boundaries of the eco-sensitive zone. The protest soon escalated into a confrontation between the villagers and the police.
