Power discoms slash legacy debt to Rs 3,300 Cr following payment reforms; what about Odisha
Bhubaneswar, April 3 -- In a major financial turnaround for India's national power sector, the outstanding legacy debts of India's power distribution companies (discoms) have been reduced by a staggering amount.
According to data presented to Parliament on Thursday, these arrears dropped from a massive Rs 1.39 lakh crore in June 2022 to just Rs 3,300 crore by March 2026.
According to The Economic Times, this progress was highlighted by Minister of State for Power, Shripad Naik, in a written response to the Lok Sabha. The shift marks a significant milestone in the government's efforts to bring financial discipline to the energy supply chain.
