Bhubaneswar, March 11 -- Cases of cheating through faulty measurements at petrol pumps and jewellery shops have come to light in Odisha, prompting authorities to impose penalties and tighten monitoring.
According to a written reply on Wednesday by Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra in the State Legislative Assembly, a total of 109 cases of fraud have been detected at petrol pumps across the State over the last three years. These cases involve the irregularities in fuel measurement, leading to consumers receiving less fuel than what they paid for.
As part of enforcement action, authorities have collected more than Rs 13 lakh in financial penalties from petrol pump operators found guilty of such violations.
