Bhubaneswar, July 7 -- A 41-year-old man from Ganjam was arrested on Sunday night in the R Udayagiri area of Gajapati district for allegedly cheating around 300 farmers out of more than Rs 3 crore.

The accused has been identified as Sanjeeb Pattnanayak of Khallikote region in Odisha's Ganjam. According to the Times Of India, he allegedly targeted tribal and Dalit families ans used to make promises to dig agricultural borewells at subsidised rates.

Following his arrest, Pattnanayak was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) in R Udayagir. The court remanded him to eight days of judicial custody.
