Bhubaneswar, Sept. 22 -- The depression over the Bay of Bengal is gradually intensifying and moving west-northwestwards at a speed of 17 kmph. The system is currently located around 220 km each from Puri and Gopalpur, while it lies about 230 km from Kalingapatnam and 320 km from Visakhapatnam.

The depression is likely to move further west-northwestwards and intensify into a deep depression within the next 12 hours. Under its influence, the risk of heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to increase across southern and coastal Odisha.

The system is likely to cross the north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coast between the night of September 23 and the early hours of September 24, as a deep depression, between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur.
