Odisha Vigilance arrests woman sarpanch for accepting Rs 20,000 bribe in Subarnapur
Bhubaneswar, July 5 -- A woman sarpanch of Nimna gram panchayat under Ullunda block in Odisha's Subarnapur district was arrested by Odisha Vigilance after she was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a Self-Help Group (SHG) representative on Sunday.
The accused, identified as Suryakanti Pandey, allegedly demanded the bribe for signing agreement papers required for pisciculture activities in a panchayat tank and facilitating the release of a fisheries subsidy from the District Fisheries Office.
According to Vigilance officials, the SHG had taken the GP tank on a five-year lease for fish farming and required the sarpanch's approval to proceed with the subsidy process.
