Bhubaneswar, June 19 -- The Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) plans to deploy more than 400 additional electric buses across Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela, Sambalpur and Berhampur as part of Odisha's push towards sustainable urban mobility.

CRUT Managing Director Mohd Siddique Alam on Thursday said the state will also introduce three hydrogen fuel cell buses with support from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

According to a report by Times Of India, since its launch in 2018, CRUT has expanded its fleet to 760 buses as of April 2026, significantly strengthening public transport services across Odisha. Electric bus operations began in Sambalpur and Berhampur in 2024, followed by major fleet additions in 2025.
