India, July 21 -- In a major step towards strengthening security inside prisons, AI-powered cameras will now keep a close watch on prisoners across jail premises in Odisha. The Jail DG Susanta Kumar Nath informed about the new surveillance system after a meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary on Tuesday.

According to the Odisha Jail DG Nath, AI cameras have already been installed in 20 jails across the state. The advanced surveillance system is expected to improve monitoring and prevent incidents such as prisoner escapes and clashes inside jail premises.
