Bhubaneswar, April 17 -- Allegations of corruption have surfaced against a district mining officer in Odisha's Bolangir, bringing the issue of bribery in the department back into focus.
The district mining officer, identified as Chandrakant Mohanty, has come under scrutiny following accusations of accepting a bribe to settle a case. According to sources, he was detained for nearly six hours at Patnagarh Police Station after the allegations emerged on Thursday.
The case pertains to the seizure of a sand-laden tractor belonging to a resident of Belpada area. It is alleged that the officer demanded Rs 25,000 through an intermediary to resolve the matter.
