Bhubaneswar, July 1 -- Tata Power-run electricity distribution companies (discoms) in Odisha are facing growing financial pressure as unpaid electricity bills by the Odisha government have crossed Rs 271 crore.

According to Business Standard report, the mounting dues have forced the utilities to bear an additional interest burden by resorting to borrowing to maintain operations.

According to the company, various state government departments had accumulated unpaid electricity bills amounting to Rs 271.28 crore for more than a year as of May 31. The dues have significantly impacted the financial health of the power distribution companies, which continue to supply electricity despite delayed payments.
