India, July 31 -- The flood situation in Odisha entered a crucial phase as floodwaters in the Mahanadi continued to surge. Authorities expect more than 9.5 lakh cusecs of floodwater to flow through Mundali. Officials therefore termed the situation critical and urged vigilance in vulnerable areas.

The rising water level is expected to impact several river systems connected to the Mahanadi. Floodwaters are likely to affect the distributaries along with the main river, prompting precautionary measures across downstream regions. Authorities already issued warnings for low-lying areas across the districts.
