Bhubaneswar, Sept. 27 -- Odisha is facing the possibility of another flood situation as rising water levels in the Mahanadi triggered concerns across downstream areas. The situation intensified after 14 gates of Chhattisgarh's Gangrel Dam were opened, which led to an increase in the flow of the Mahanadi.

The Hirakud Dam opened 22 gates to release water. The reservoir's water level stood at 628.19 feet, with an average inflow of 3,39,018 cusecs and an outflow of 3,64,432 cusecs.

According to reports, around 6 lakh cusecs of floodwater is expected to reach Mundali by Sunday night. The water flow in the Mahanadi is rising steadily. Its tributaries are also swelling, raising concerns in downstream areas.
