Odisha celebrates Pahili Raja with Poda Pitha, traditional Paan to honour Mother Earth and agrarian roots
Bhubaneswar, June 14 -- The festival of Raja commenced across Odisha on Sunday with the celebration of 'Pahili Raja'. Marking the arrival of the monsoon at the beginning of the Odia month of Ashadha, the festival is observed as a gesture of reverence towards Mother Earth and the state's agrarian heritage.
A vibrant festive atmosphere enveloped both rural and urban areas, drawing participation from all age groups.
The celebrations are characterised by distinct cultural customs, particularly among young women and children. Young girls begin the day early with traditional bathing and dressing up in new garments.
