Nuclear power plant race begins in Odisha; Tata and Adani submit mega power proposals
Bhubaneswar, Aug. 7 -- Industrial conglomerates Tata Group and Adani Group submitted separate proposals to the Odisha government to establish nuclear power plants in the state. Energy Secretary Vishal Kumar Dev confirmed the developments.
According to The Times Of India, Dev stated that while both companies approached the administration, the government had not taken a final decision on the offers.
The proposals were made as the state government is evaluating Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) under its Vision 2036 and 2047 plans.
Unlike traditional reactors that produce 1,000 MW to 1,700 MW, SMRs generate up to 300 MW and can be deployed in phases. The state's long-term vision aims to transform Odisha into a major energy hub by 2047.
