Bhubaneswar, April 25 -- A fire that was burning in the Nalabana area of Chilika Lake for three days was brought fully under control o Saturday. The blaze, which broke out on Thursday, had raised concerns over the safety of wildlife in the ecologically sensitive region.

Fire service teams from Kanas and Tangi in Puri district were engaged in continuous operations over the past two days to douse the flames. Officials said sustained efforts were made to prevent the fire from spreading further across the Nalabana area.

It is suspected that miscreants likely set fire to the area to facilitate fishing activities, although this aspect remains under assessment.
