Bhubaneswar, June 28 -- In a shocking incident in the capital city of Odisha, a minor girl was allegedly befriended on social media and later raped by her Instagram friend. The accused lured the girl for a meet-up and later raped her, family members alleged.

Based on a complaint, Chandaka Police launched a probe, leading to the arrest of the accused on Sunday. The accused has been identified as Supriya Maharana from the Palashpalli area.

According to police sources, the accused had befriended the minor girl through social media. The victim went missing on the evening of June 16 during the Raja festival while she was on her way to a dance competition.
