Microfinance company takes away elderly couple's ration card over loan default in Odisha
Bhubaneswar, June 30 -- An elderly couple in Odisha's Bolangir district has accused employees of a microfinance company of taking away their ration card, rice and other household items after their son allegedly failed to repay a loan on time.
The incident took place at Banakabihar village under Patnagarh police limits. The family alleged that the recovery agents resorted to intimidation despite the elderly couple having no direct role in the loan.
According to the complaint, Subash Bariha had borrowed Rs 50,000 from a microfinance company. When the loan installments were delayed, a group of recovery agents allegedly reached the family's house and took away the ration card, rice and a ceiling fan.
