Bhubaneswar, March 16 -- India's metro rail network has witnessed unprecedented growth over the past decade, transforming urban transport and strengthening household economic stability. A recent analysis highlights how metro connectivity is not only improving mobility but also contributing to sustainable urban development and financial resilience.
India's metro network has expanded significantly since 2014. The operational length of metro and regional rapid transit systems has increased from 248 kilometres in 2014 to about 1,095 kilometres in 2025, making it one of the largest metro systems globally. The number of cities with metro services has also grown sharply, rising from five cities in 2014 to 26 cities by 2025.
