Bhubaneswar, Aug. 3 -- Train passengers often trust Indian Railways to provide a safe and secure journey, especially while travelling in reserved coaches. Meanwhile, a theft aboard the Rajdhani Express has led to a significant ruling, with the Pathankot District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission holding Northern Railways responsible for deficiency in service and directing it to compensate a passenger with Rs 80,000.

The case dates back to December 14, 2021, when a man was travelling with his wife and child in the reserved 3AC coach of Rajdhani Express (Train No. 12423). During the journey, the woman's handbag, containing a 15-gram mangalsutra valued at around Rs 65,000, Rs 5,000 in cash and an SBI passbook, was stolen.
