Bhubaneswar, June 19 -- A man was allegedly hacked to death with an axe while asleep at his house in Odisha's Bargarh district's Turla village under Jharbandh police limits late Thursday night. Police have arrested the accused and launched an investigation.

The deceased has been identified as Trinath Naik.

According to local residents, Trinath Naik and Yogendra Kharsel had been involved in a long-standing family rivalry. Villagers said disputes between the two families were frequent and often led to both verbal and physical confrontations.

Sources said tensions had again flared between the two sides on Thursday. Later that night, Trinath was sleeping at his house when he was allegedly attacked with an axe.
