Bhubaneswar, Sept. 12 -- A man and his differently-abled sister drowned in a canal in Odisha's Mayurbhanj on Saturday after the woman allegedly entered the water to rescue her brother who had fallen into it.

The deceased have been identified as Parameswar Nayak and Nandini Nayak of Malharpada village under Khunta Police Station.

According to reports, Parameswar initially fell into the Naluha River canal due to negligence. Seeing her brother being swept away, Nandini entered the canal in an attempt to rescue him.

However, she too was swept away by the strong current. Both siblings subsequently drowned in the canal.
