India, Oct. 9 -- Villagers have destroyed cannabis plants they had grown after a police awareness campaign against cannabis cultivation in Silimeta village of Odisha's Malkangiri district. However, they are now worried about how to support their families and have sought government assistance to sustain their livelihoods.

The incident took place in Silimeta village in the Swabhiman Anchal area of Chitrakonda, under the jurisdiction of Paparmetla police station.

Villagers Give Up Cannabis Cultivation Following the police awareness campaign, villagers took the initiative to cut down and destroy the cannabis plants grown in their fields. The move marks a shift away from cannabis cultivation in the village.
