Bhubaneswar, Sept. 29 -- The flood situation in the Mahanadi system has become a growing concern in several parts of Odisha, with 26 gates of the Hirakud Dam currently releasing water downstream.

Around 8 lakh cusecs of floodwater had reportedly reached Mundali by Monday evening, raising concerns among people living along the river and in low-lying areas.

The Hirakud reservoir is receiving around 5.01 lakh cusecs of water every second, while about 5.14 lakh cusecs is being released downstream.
