Bhubaneswar, May 9 -- The Centre has appointed NS Raja Subramani (Retd) as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), marking a key development in India's top military leadership. He will also serve as Secretary to the Government of India in the Department of Military Affairs, assuming charge from the date he takes office. He will succeed the incumbent CDS, Anil Chauhan, whose tenure is scheduled to end on May 30, 2026. The appointment comes at a crucial time as India continues to push forward with military reforms, including greater integration among the armed forces and the proposed theatre command structure.
