Bhubaneswar, Sept. 2 -- A temple that remained buried for nearly 25 years recently became visible at the seashore in Podampeta in Odisha's Ganjam. The temple's spire emerged from beneath the sand after the sea receded from the area.

According to local residents, the structure is believed to be the famous Gangadevi Temple. It had remained buried for the past 25 years. They said that the sea had engulfed the temple even before its consecration.

The area where the temple stands was once home to a settlement. However, over the years, the entire locality gradually submerged into the sea and left the temple buried beneath the sand.

As the sea receded, parts of the temple started emerging from beneath the sand.
