Bhubaneswar, Feb. 27 -- Kolkata experienced strong tremors on Friday afternoon, startling residents across the city around 1:22 pm.
The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported that the earthquake measured 5.5 in magnitude. It occurred at 1:22 pm IST at a depth of 10 km, with the epicentre located in Bangladesh at coordinates 22.57degN latitude and 89.11degE longitude.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS), however, recorded the quake at a magnitude of 5.3. According to USGS data, the epicentre was situated about 26 km southeast of Taki in West Bengal.
As of now, officials have not reported any casualties or structural damage.
