Bhubaneswar, June 11 -- The Excise Commissioner has suspended an Excise Sub-Inspector (SI) and an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) on Thursday in connection with an alleged third-degree torture case reported from Pattamundai Excise Police Station in Kendrapara district.

The suspended officers have been identified as SI Chhayakanta Nayak and ASI Pradeep Mallik. The action was taken following an investigation into allegations that a youth was illegally detained and assaulted by excise personnel.
