Bhubaneswar, May 17 -- Severe Kalbaisakhi storms wreaked havoc in Odisha's Mohana area in Gajapati district, causing widespread damage, disrupting electricity supply and claiming the life of a youth due to lightning strike on Saturday. Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorm lashed several parts of the region on Saturday evening.

According to local sources, strong winds uprooted trees in Dhepanaju village under Karachabadi panchayat, causing obstruction on roads and creating panic among residents. The storm also damaged electric poles in the area, leading to disruption of power supply in several nearby villages. Electricity restoration work is reportedly underway.
