Bhubaneswar, March 17 -- The Biju Janata Dal appears to be facing internal turmoil after cross-voting by several of its legislators in the recent Rajya Sabha elections, raising questions about unity within the party.
The development comes as a setback for party president and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who had reportedly made efforts to ensure consensus among party members. However, despite internal discussions, at least six MLAs, along with two suspended legislators, are said to have cross-voted, dealing a significant blow to the party's strategy.
Sources indicate that some legislators extended support to Dilip Ray, defying the party line. The move has exposed underlying discontent within the regional outfit.
