Bhubaneswar, Sept. 28 -- The water level in the Hirakud reservoir continues to rise, with 28 sluice gates open to release water. As of Monday morning, the water level at Hirakud Dam stood at 629.08 feet.

According to the latest figures, 6,17,308 cusecs of water are entering the reservoir every second. On the other hand, an average of 4,96,602 cusecs of water is being released from the dam through the open gates.

The increased water discharge has also affected road communication between Sambalpur and Sonepur. Water is flowing over the road at several places after the opening of the 28 gates.
