Bhubaneswar, Oct. 23 -- Former Patna MLA Kanhu Charan Naik passed away at the age of 79 at a hospital in Odisha's Keonjhar district on Thursday night. He breathed his last at around 8 pm while undergoing treatment.

According to reports, Naik remained unwell for the past few months and was receiving medical care. He was initially admitted to a private hospital before being shifted to a hospital in Keonjhar, where he later passed away.

Naik was elected as the MLA from Patna in 1990 and served in the position until 1995. He also served as the Janata Dal's district president from 1992 to 1994.
