Bhubaneswar, Aug. 30 -- Former Odisha minister and veteran politician Dambaru Majhi passed away while undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital in Nabarangpur on Sunday. He was 86.

Majhi had been undergoing treatment for age-related health complications. He reportedly breathed his last at around 5 am at the hospital.

A prominent political figure from the region, Majhi served as a minister in the Odisha government at different points between 1967 and 1990, handling various departments during his political career.

Majhi was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly five times. He represented the Dabugaon Assembly constituency in 1967, 1971 and 1985, while he was elected from the Kodinga constituency in 1977 and 1980.
