Former IAS Officer, ex-PD DRDA convicted in Rs 9 lakh corruption case in Odisha
Bhubaneswar, Sept. 3 -- Vigilance Court in Dhenkanal on Thursday convicted former Dhenkanal Collector Nityananda Mohanty, former PD DRDA, Suryanarayan Das, and transport contractor Satyananda Balasamanta in a corruption case involving alleged misappropriation of around Rs 9 lakh in government funds.
The court sentenced all three convicts to one year of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine on each of them. The conviction was pronounced on September 3, 2026.
The case relates to the period 2001-02, when Mohanty was serving as Collector of Dhenkanal. According to Odisha Vigilance, Mohanty had approved a higher transportation rate proposed by Das for moving rice and wheat from the FCI godown in Dhenkanal to different block and gram panch...
