India, Aug. 1 -- The floods triggered by the overflowing Budhabalanga River have dealt a severe blow to shrimp farming in Odisha's Balasore district, causing extensive losses to aquaculture farmers.

As per reports, thousands of hectares of shrimp farms have been inundated after floodwaters entered the culture ponds, destroying standing crops and disrupting the harvesting cycle.

With their ponds submerged and the risk of losing the entire crop increasing, shrimp farmers have been left with no option but to begin premature harvesting in a desperate attempt to recover at least a portion of their investment. Instead of earning the expected profits, many farmers are now struggling to save their principal amount.
