Bhubaneswar, Sept. 28 -- The flow of floodwater through Mundali has increased after 28 gates of the Hirakud Dam were opened. Around 8 lakh cusecs of water is expected to pass through the barrage on Monday. The rising flow has also affected several areas along the Mahanadi, with 10 panchayats in Banki and Tigiria blocks cut off from the outside world.

At present, 7,54,385 cusecs of water is flowing through Mundali. The discharge from the Hirakud reservoir has led to a steady rise in both the water flow and water level at Mundali.

People living in low-lying areas and riverine districts, including Cuttack, Puri and Jagatsinghpur, have been advised to remain alert.
